Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon
Question:
I have a 2014 Subaru Outback. I want to buy a bike rack for the back. I had a Swagman on my Dodge Caravan. On your site, I saw there is a product called Vertex that has a lever. Carrying two bikes is fine. Four is better, although I seldom needed to carry that many bikes. I have Cannondale bikes mountain, beach, touring and a Bike Friday folding bike. I have not installed a hitch. I saw you also have seat covers. On the rack, I do not want a top or a trunk rack. Thanks in advance!

Since you do not want a roof or trunk mount bike rack you are going to need a hitch for your 2014 Subaru Outback. If you want to carry 4 bikes I recommend a Class III trailer hitch with a 2 inch receiver because there are more options for accessories for a 2 inch trailer hitch.
The most popular Class III hitch for your Outback is Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75673. I have linked a video showing an installation of this hitch (it also fits a 2012 model) and a link to the instructions.
I recommend the Thule Hitching Post Pro, # TH934XTR. This is also a 4-bike rack, it can tilt down but you would have to remove the bikes first. I have linked a video review of this rack as well.
If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical mens bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wifes bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my sons bike at all. I linked a video showing how the adapter works.
We do have seat covers for your Outback. I have included a link to them for you.
