Yakima OverHaul HD and Tonneau Cover for 2012 GMC Canyon

Question:

I have a few questions about the Yakima Overhaul HD racks: Question 1: There are 300 pound and 500 pound versions, and the 300 pound version costs more. Why, and are there any other differences? 500: Y01151-58 300: Y01151-5855 Question 2: Compatible with this Pace-Edwards Tonneau? 311-JRC3453 Question 3: Is the rack easy to remove? Id prefer to only have it on when carrying kayaks and take it off the rest of the time. Question 4: is all of this compatible with a bed liner? My truck has the GMC bed liner. Question 5: If I used Yakima Jaylow kayak carriers, could I get away with one set for 2 kayaks that weigh 120, or am I really going to need one set for each yak? Anything else I ought to know about these? I just got the truck, and the market has a vast array of products, many of which at least among retractible bedliners dont fit it or arent rack compatible. Question 6: I also plan to tow it, and it looks like the Blue Ox base plate for a 2012 Canyon Z71 is better than the Roadmaster base plate. Do you concur? Thanks!

The difference between the Yakima OverHaul HD # Y01151-5855 and # Y01151-58 is the tonneau cover adapter. This is the reason why the # Y01151-5855 has a lower capacity and higher cost. These are not compatible with the Pace Edwards JackRabbit # 311-JRC3453 since it has regular rails.

If you have the 5' bed there are no retractable covers that will work with the ladder rack. If you have the 6' bed you could use the Pace Edwards JackRabbit Retractable Hard Tonneau Cover w Explorer Rails # 311-JEC0646. The rails with the T-slots are necessary to mount the ladder rack.

With the 5' bed you have two options. One is to use the # Y01151-58 without the tonneau cover. The other is to use the TruXedo Elevate Truck Bed Rack System # TX38NV along with the TruXedo Sentry CT Hard Tonneau Cover - Roll Up # TX1539816 or the BAKFlip G2 Hard Tonneau Cover - Folding # BAK26106. The bed liner won't be a problem for any of these.

The Yakima JayLow Kayak Roof Rack w/ Tie-Downs # Y04073 has a weight capacity of 110 lbs for 2 kayaks so you would need a set for each if you want to use them. What you could use instead is the Malone FoldAway-5 # MAL38FR.

I actually tend to prefer Roadmaster over Blue Ox. Realistically the Blue Ox # BX1656 and Roadmaster # 3164-3 are both good options that will work well so I would choose based on the tow bar you decide to use.
