Troubleshooting Hayes Micro Control Brake Controller Installed on 1999 Ford F250

Question:

I have a Hayes Micro control HD Plus, I have it in a 1999 F250 super duty,4 wheel drive the controller works great off the remote but will not work off the break pedal I have tried everything I know I replaced the wiring harness from the tow package to the controller, still nothing, checked all the fuses, any ideals , do I need a new controller????

I'd begin by using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 on the red wire exiting the rear of the controller. See of you get any current on that wire when the brake pedal is pressed. If you don't get signal, you probably have a blown fuse or relay. Typically, the red brake controller wire is tied in with the third stoplight on the rear of the vehicle, so if that fuse is blown, you won't get trailer braking with the brake pedal.

If you do get a signal on that wire, check its connection at the brake controller.
