Why Would New RV Steps Operate Backwards when Door is Open and Closed

Question:

I have a 2011 Forest River Berkshire 390BH. I replaced the entry step and it is operating backwards, door open, step retracts. Door closed, door extends. Will replacing the original door switch correct this issue? Also, whe I turn the ignition on the steps extend, is this also related to the incorrect door switch? Thanks

The problem is you do have the wrong switch for your door sensor.

Whenever we hear that the steps are working in reverse that usually means you have the incorrect door switch, normally closed vs normally open or it is installed wrong. For a normally closed door switch we have the Lippert Components Kwikee Round Magnetic Door Switch part # LC379400 and for a normally open door switch we have the Lippert Components Kwikee Pleated Plunger Door Switch part # LC379407.

My guess is that maybe you reused the old door switch instead of what came with your new steps and that's what the problem is.

Actually, looking at the sensor, it looks like the LC379400, but in black.

I am not sure what "normally open" or "normally closed" means? Also, it looks like I currently have something similar to to LC375385. Will that also resolve my issue?

@Kurt It is just a circuit designation. Like an open circuit is one that isn't connected and a closed circuit is one that is connected.

The new step came with the magnet, no door switch.. Thanks for the assistance.
