Will Adding A Higher Rated Hitch To My Motorhome Increase Its Towing Capacity?

Question:

I recently bought a 2023 Forest River GT5 Georgetown motorhome. I would lije to flat tow me jeep gladiator which weighs slightly over the 5000 lb rated tow capacity. By installing a heavier rated hitch will that resolve my tow concern? If so what hitch would you recommend?

Hello David. Installing a heavier rated hitch will not necessarily resolve your tow concern. According to the online user guide for a 2023 Forest River GT5 Georgetown Motorhome, the coach itself is only rated for 5,000 lbs towing. So even if you were to install a higher rated hitch, you will still be limited to the 5,000 lb towing capacity of the coach. I hate to say it, but I cannot in good conscience recommend towing a vehicle that weighs more than 5,000 lbs with this Motorhome. There is simply too much risk involved. Unfortunately, there are really no aftermarket solutions for increasing the towing capacity of a vehicle. I do wish I had better news for you, but the only potential solution would be for you to find a different, lighter vehicle to tow.
