Troubleshooting Trailer Lights Not Working Correctly on a 2003 Featherlite Gooseneck Trailer

Question:

We recently bought a 2003 Featherlite gooseneck trailer. We’re towing it with a 2022 Chevy 3500HD. We’re having issues with the lights and brakes locking up when connected. The blinkers are reversed… truck left is trailer right and vice versa. Also none of the interior or loading lights work. We’ve bought a new 7-way connector and tried requiring but got some things to work but others don’t. If we follow the directions for rewiring everything doesn’t work again. But the constant is the interior and loading lights. We got the brakes to not lock when driving but haven’t tested them while pulling to see if they engage yet. Any tips?

It sounds like your 2003 Featherlite gooseneck trailer was rewired if the wiring is not matching up correctly for the 7-Way # A10-7W6. This tends to happen a lot on some of the older trailers as they are usually just done by someone who really doesn't know what they are doing. You are going to want to try and trace the wiring to first verify they are connected correctly as I have often seen the running lights wiring tied into the wrong terminal on the tail lights as well. I have linked our 7-Way wiring article below which will help you with some of the troubleshooting with the wiring.

What you also may be experiencing is the person who owned it before you may have had it wired for a commercial application which would also explain the brakes being activated off of the brake lights.
