Parts Needed To Convert From Grease To Oil Bath Hub Assemblies
Question:
Can I convert my 1 2000lb boat trailer axle hubs from grease to oil bath by changing hub cap assembly and seal only or do I need to change complete hub?

Hey Dave,
To switch over to oil bath you'll want to clean out the hub and spindle to remove any leftover grease and then you can just replace the bearings and grease seal. You can check if the part numbers are still stamped into the face of the bearings and grease seal or measure the spindle with a digital caliper # PTW80157 at points B, C, and D on the diagram below to get the inner diameters. For the outer diameters you'll need to measure the bore hole of the hub.
Once you know your bearings and seal dimensions or part numbers we can get replacement bearings and oil seals, which are slightly different than standard grease seal you currently have. From there we need to find the correct oil cap as well. The Kodiak # xlprolube1980 you were looking at fits hub's with a 1.98" bore hole.
Let me know what you find and I'd be happy to help find the correct components for you.
