Hello David. The Draw-Tite # DT83MR is rated for towing up to 2,000 lbs. I am not sure exactly what cart and trailer you have, but as long as the weight of the trailer and cart combined is less than 2,000 lbs you will be just fine. Most golf carts are like 700 or 800 lbs and most 5x8 trailers would be about that weight as well. So, unless you have some excessively heavy cart or trailer you can definitely tow it 20 miles (or more) with the Draw-Tite # DT83MR hitch.
Since you plant to tow a trailer, you will also need the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring harness # C54ER to power the lights on the trailer.
