Should You Replace 2-1/4" Shackle Straps With Same Size in MORryde Suspension Kit

Question:

Have a MORryde kit for a tandem axle boat trailer that looks to have 2 1/4inch long shackle straps. The trailer currently has 3 1/8inch shackle straps. Can I use the shorter straps in the kit and be fine or do I need to get the ones with the longer straps?? Just seems to me that the shorter straps will just raise the trailer a bit.

Hi Americo, thanks for the question and you do need to stick with the same size 2-1/4 inch shackle straps that are in the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers # MR46ZR.

Going with longer shackle straps can negatively affect the travel of the suspension, creating all sorts of wear issues.

Even though the trailer originally has the 3 1/8” straps??? Just want to be sure.

@AmericoS Apologies, I misunderstood. I thought you were saying your trailer currently has 2-1/4" shackle straps, but you're saying a kit does. Okay, no, you need to stick with the current, 3-1/8" shackle straps, which is the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers - 3-1/8" Long Shackle Straps # MR76ZR.
