Troubleshooting 1-1/4" to 2" Adapter Won't Fit Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver
Question:
I purchased a class 1 receiver to mount on our 2014 Sonata. I've also purchased a 1-1/4 to 2inch adapter, however the 1-1/4 adapter is slightly larger than the receiver and will not fit.

The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24965 is a Class I hitch. I'm not sure what adapter you got since I only have a record of the hitch purchase. There is a weld stop in the # 24965 that prevents you from using Class II accessories so if by larger you mean it won't go in all the way that is the problem. You will need an adapter that is compatible with a Class I hitch like the # HT5R or # HTAD.
If you mean larger than 1-1/4" so it won't go in at all it is likely a manufacturing defect with the adapter. I would return or exchange it. If a friend or neighbor has a 1-1/4" hitch you could always try it on theirs to be sure but I doubt the hitch is the issue. Keep in mind, the use of any adapter is going to reduce your capacity by 50%.
