Solutions for Using a 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter on a Trailer that Sits too Low

Question:

I have a 2006 Ford 350 with the factory installed goose neck ball . I backed my truck back under the 5th wheel on trailer and measured from the top of truck bed to bottom od 5th wheel plate , I came up with 12 inch , Now I m told I should have measured from top of ball to 5th wheel plate , if I do that , I now have only 91/2 inch . The adpt. I have goes from 16-12 , will this adpt. work ?

It sounds like your 2006 Ford F350 may have a lift kit, or your trailer just sits really low. 12 inches is basically the lowest adapter we have.

If you do have a lift kit on your truck you could remove it so that your truck would sit low enough that a # CAB-C5G would work for you. Or, if your trailer axles are above your leaf springs you could flip them to underneath the springs. This should give you a 3-4 inch lift on your trailer that would work with the # CAB-C5G.

If you have a 3 inch axle you would want the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00 per axle, if you have 2-3/8 inch axles you would want part # K71-384-00 per trailer axle.
