Recommended Bike Rack For A Gazelle Ebike

Question:

I am a petite gal at 5 Ft and looking to buy a heavy gazelle ebike and need to be able to get the trailer hitch 2 inch bike rack carrier for my Lexus RS 350 on and off of the hitch easily and yet be able to secure the bike . Will use a ramp to load the bike on the bike carrier rack. Been looking at thule and kuat. Cant buy the ebike till I find a way to transport it home. Next option would be specialized LW ebike and put on my regular yakima bike rack hitch but very difficult to lift the bike high enough to put on the rack with my regular bike. Would love to hear from you guys on pro and cons of these bike racks.

Hi Janice,

With Gazelle ebikes having both front and rear fenders you'll have to go with a frame mount to avoid damaging the fender or rear basket. Since there currently isn't a frame mounted Kuat rack with a high enough capacity you'll need to go with Thule's Epos Bike Rack # TH99XE. This rack has wheel straps to secure the wheels at the base of the rack and rotating masts to grip the frame or rear wheel to completely secure the bikes.

It doesn't come with a ramp but one can be ordered separately with part # TH933402. It has wheels to help haul it around when you need to remove it from your Lexus and the tool-free installation/removal with the lever will make this process faster and easier. I've attached a short video below where Aiden will show you the rack in use and go over its features.

Will this bike allowed me to strap the bike without having to hold the bike uo once I get it on the rack.

@Janice The wheel cradles of the Thule Epos Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # TH99XE would not be enough to hold the bike in place so you would need to use the strap on the frame mast to hold the bike and could then use the wheel straps to fully secure the bike.

@JaniceD The Yakima OnRamp # Y36FR would also require that you use the frame clamp to hold the bike steady on the rack and could then secure the wheels with the wheel straps. This rack also only has a 66lb per bike capacity so you'll want to verify the weight of your bikes to ensure you wouldn't overload the rack.
