Parts Needed To Convert A 2021 Crossroads RV Redwood 3951MB To Disc Brakes

Question:

2021 Redwood3951 MB Looking for a disc brake conversion kit. Wheel are 17.5 8000 lb axles I think 8 lug wheels Looks like 6 spread 14 mm studs Pricing for 2 axles, hydraulic line kit and pump. Does this include breakaway switch if needed to replace tow vehicle is a 2012 Ram 3500 dually will current factory controller work Will I have to replace lug nuts with disc brake change?

Hi Floyd,

Before we can confirm the correct kit will also need to figure out what bearings/grease seal match your spindles. You can remove them from the current hub and see if the part numbers are still stamped into them or you can measure the spindle at points B, C, and D on the diagram below with a set of calipers # PTW80157.

From there you'll want to take a tape measure and measure the distance from where the actuator is going to sit back to the first axle, keeping in mind the distance of routing around other components.

Next is the actuator, for this I recommend the Hydrastar Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator w/ Breakaway and 7-Way RV Harness # HS381-9067. This includes the actuator, a junction box, 7-way connector w/cable, breakaway battery and switch. There are kits that include brake lines as well but I'd like to get an idea on your distance before recommending any of those.

There are adapters to trick factory brake controllers into working with EOH actuators but they honestly are a total waste. Factory brake controllers either won't activate the EOH actuator or will have a delayed response, which isn't great when you need brakes in an emergency situation.

Instead I recommend getting an aftermarket brake controller like the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller # RED44FR along with the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter # 3021-S to make installation easy.
