How is Weight Rating of etrailer Hitch that Fits 2020 Subaru Ascent Determined
Question:
According to the specs listed on your website the E55ZR has a tongue weight limit of 750 lbs and a towing capacity of 5000 lbs. According to a Facebook group that I am in, that information is false and the hitch doesn’t mount to the frame correctly and should not be used in towing. I would really not liked to have my bumper ripped off and a trailer go flying into the ditch. Are the stated limits correct?

Expert Reply:
Hey David, so aftermarket trailer hitch capacities do not always mean the vehicle is rated the same. What the manufacturers do is design a hitch that fits the vehicle and then try and reinforce it as much as possible to make it as strong as possible and then independently rate the hitch from the vehicle. So that is all the weight rating for this hitch relates to.
Also, Facebook can be a decent source of some info but not everything you read there is completely accurate.
