Hey Tom, so you have a couple options but most likely what you need is a 4-way to 5-way adapter like part # 20036 which will give your Ford Edge a fully functional 5-way for your boat trailer.

So the reason your boat trailer most likely has a 5-way is because it has a reverse lockout solenoid that the 5th pin of the 5-way activates to allow you to back up the trailer without locking up the brakes. This is pretty common on boat trailers but it's not always the case the 5th pin is used. So if the trailer doesn't need a reverse lockout activated you could just plug your current 4-way into the 5-way as-is and you'd be good to go.

If you need the reverse lockout you would need to wire the adapter to the reverse light circuit of your vehicle. I did attach an install video for the adapter for you to check out as well.

Hi Jameson, I purchased a part, and reviewed the video, and went to install this part. However, my reverse lights are on the liftgate and not the rear tail light, is there another kit that I need? I have a 2020 edge titanium. Tom

@Tom That makes it more interesting but when the lift gate is open you'll see a wire loom that runs from the gate to the threshold. That is where you'll have to access the reverse light circuit. You can ID the wire there and then pull off interior panels lower on inside of vehicle and tap into it there though.

@JamesonC Do you happen to know which wire it would be? I have looked all over and can’t find it.

@Tom I wish I did but I do not. What you might try is pull the panel off the liftgate so that you can see the actual wires that run to the reverse light sockets. Or if you pull the lens/housing of the reverse lights you can see the wiring there. One of the wires in that threshold loom has to be it though. A hook style circuit tester like part # PTW2993 would be easiest way to test.
