Why Does The Tekonsha T-One # 118405 Require Running A Wire To The Battery?
Question:
Hi - you guys have a great video that shows part 118405 installing to a 2011 mazda cx7. I have the same vehicle and want to install trailer lights. However I would prefer to install a kit that does not need to connect directly to the battery. Why does this one need to? Do you have a similar product that does not? Please advise, and thank you.

Hello Matt, thanks for your question. Wiring harnesses such as the Tekonsha T-One Wiring Harness # 118405 require a wire to be run to the battery to power the converter module. Wiring the converter directly to the battery helps to protect the vehicles wiring and circuits. It also is to ensure that the converter has a direct, dependable source of 12v power.
Your 2011 Mazda CX-7 does not have the factory tow package, correct? If so, any wiring harness you install will require running a wire to the battery, and I am afraid there is no way around this. Running a wire directly to the battery is necessary, and failure to do so can result in non-warranty damage to the wiring harness and/or your vehicle.
