Weight Distribution for a 2014 Jayco Swift 287BH and 2013 Toyota Tundra Crew Max

Question:

I have a Tundra with a tow capacity of 9000lbs. My trailer is 2014 jayco swift 287bh that is a total of 333inch and weighs 6243lbs dry. Dry tongue weight of close to 700lbs. The max gross weight of trailer is 8000lbs. I was looking at RP66074 strait line hitch but wasnt sure if that would work or if I need the 15000lb strait line. If there is something else you recommend let me know.

When choosing a weight distribution system you need to go by the total tongue weight. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

It sounds like the tongue weight of your trailer is 11 percent of the gross trailer weight dry (686 pounds). That would mean the likely tongue weight of the trailer at 8,000 pounds would be 880 pounds.

A system that is rated for 600 to 1,200 pounds, # RP66074, would be a good fit. You will need to add a shank and ball to this system.

To determine the best shank you will need to follow the ball mount help article I have linked showing how to measure for rise or drop needed to tow the trailer level. Then you can use the link to the compatible shanks to find one that is going to work best for you.

For a 2-5/16 inch ball use # 19286 and for a 2 inch use # A-90. I have included some helpful links on weight distribution and determining tongue weight for you as well.
