Cargo carrying Recommendations For 2014 Toyota Highlander With Factory Crossbars

Question:

I have a 2014 Toyota Highlander and I do have Factory crossrails BUT the highlander uses fixed mounting points for the rails not the conventional front to rear mounted rails. I want to use a roof top cargo carrier, the bag style but most of them attach to the side rails correct? What would you suggest without using the basket or a hard top carrier? Thanks for the help.

A cargo bag like the Rightline Range 2 Rooftop Cargo Bag - Water Resistant - 15 cu ft - 40" x 36" x 18" # RL100R20. You may want to measure the distance between the crossbars on your 2014 Toyota Highlander. Since the tie-down straps are adjustable, it will work just fine for your roof.

If you find that your crossbars are spaced too far apart to accommodate the roof bag, you may wish to consider a bag that can be placed on the roof between the crossbars like the Rightline Sport 3 XL Rooftop Cargo Bag, part # RL100S30. This bag measures 48 X 40 X 19 and has an 18 cu ft capacity.

You could then use a roof protection pad like part # RL100650. this would protect the paint finish of your Highlander.

To be able to reach the cargo on your Highlander roof, I recommend a tire step like part # HE4040.The strap simply slips over the tire on your vehicle and allows you to have access to the middle of your roof. It folds flat for easy storage and has a weight capacity of 400 lbs.

You will want to check your owner's manual or with your dealership to make sure you do not exceed the roof weight capacity of your Highlander.
