Will The Maximum Tongue Weight on a 2018 VW Passat Increase With Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver?
Question:
My 2018 VW Passat SE manual states the maximum tongue weight is 100 lbs. If I were to purchase and install this Curt #C11234, would it then increase the maximum tongue weight for my car to 200 lbs or will it remain at 100 lbs?

Sorry Brian, installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11234 is not going to increase your allowable tongue weight on your 2018 VW Passat SE. The maximum weight capacity give by the vehicle manufacturer can not be increased because the receiver has a higher weight capacity. This is all to common as the aftermarket likes to build their products to be stronger than the vehicle can handle to help ensure their product is safe to use.
I always recommend having a 4-Way # C79KR installed with the receiver as you never know when you may need to add Auxiliary Lights # C53201 or connect to the lights on a small trailer.
