Recommended Base Plate for 2024 Ford Maverick With a Blue Ox Base Plate That's Too Wide
Question:
I have a 2024 Ford Maverick hybrid with a Blue Ox base plate installed. The tab attachment points are 41” apart. Even with my Blue Ox Avail tow bar the tabs are way too far apart. They be limit turning and put extreme asymmetric stress on everything. Is there a solution short of removing the base plate?

Okay Bob, so I did a bit of digging around and apparently this is a known issue that Blue Ox is aware of. The 41" distance between the mounting points is too wide and non-standard which is why your tow bars are being stretched too far.
Unfortunately there is no solution from Blue Ox which is a bit disappointing but with that said you'd be better off getting rid of those base plates and use something else instead. That much stress on your tow bar/base plates is going to only end up bad in the long term.
I recommend using the Roadmaster Direct Connect Base Plate # RM97RR. This base plate is going to have the standard 24-28" spacing between the tabs and can be used with your Avail # BX7420 with the use of an adapter # BX88185. Since you'd be using a non Blue Ox base plate, an adapter is required no matter which brand you go with.
I've also attached a couple pictures showing the tab spacing difference between the Blue Ox and Roadmaster for you to check out as well.

Thanks Bryce. I’ve decided to remove the Blue Ox base plate and go with Roadmaster base plate and tow bar. Which of these do you recommend for my Maverick?
