Why Did my Trailer Overhang Contact the Bedrails of my 2006 Ram 2500

Question:

I have this adaptor on my keystone outback 28 ft and am towing with 2500 dodge ram 2006 short bed. All was great till I attempted to enter my driveway that has a steep grade. When the trucks front left tire tilted it through the right rear truck quarter onto the underside of the trailer. It is clear we will need to grade our driveway soon but in the mean time do you think a standard bed truck we have also would make the difference or in the future the 8inch adaptor on our short bed?

The problem you had is not related to the length of your truck bed. What really matters is the distance between your truck bedrails and the overhang of your trailer. If the truck you have with a long bed sits lower than your short bed truck and you could adjust more height into your Ranch Hitch part # AM3100 then it could work for you.

Typically when the trailer and truck are sitting level you want between 4-6 inches between the bedrails and the trailer overhang. But if your driveway has a ridiculous steep grade then you might need more than that.
