Troubleshooting Weak Trailer Brake Assemblies
Question:
I purchased etrailer 12” electric brake last spring because my existing brakes were very weak. I installed the brakes and I still have the same results. I put my brake controller on 10 the highest setting and at best there is some brake but still very little and not safe. Makes me think it’s something other than the brakes like the wiring?

It could be the wiring that is causing the brakes to feel weak. If the wiring is too thin it can't carry all of the amperage needed to apply the brakes. You'd want to make sure the wiring is 10 gauge like what we sell by the foot with part # 10-1-1.
The most common culprit for weak trailer brakes is the assemblies being out of adjustment. You want to tighten the assemblies till theres just a light drag on the wheel as you turn it by hand.
