5.30-12 Trailer Tires With 81mph Speed Rating For a Harbor Freight 1,720LB Super Duty Trailer

Question:

Hello, Im trying to find out what, if anything, I need to upgrade on a trailer Im looking at in order to raise the speed limit to at least 65mph. In a post relating to the same topic Jon G. indicated that the tires are the only thing holding back the speed of the trailer. This Harbor Freight Haul-Master 1720lb trailer includes a Carlisle 5.3 x 12 tire which is larger than the Kenda in Jon Gs previous customer reply and the tire its self is rated to 81mph on the treadwall stamp, yet the mfg is stating 45mph in the manual, am I missing something with regard to the trailer build? Happy to upgrade the tires, rim, or bearing if needed, but not if its unnecessary. Please help!

Typically it is the trailers tires which will restrict the maximum speed, so installing the Taskmaster 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire # TTWSF53012C should allow you to drive up to 81mph. I do see in the manual where it states to not exceed 45mph but it also is in reference to trailer sway. This makes me think the trailer does not have enough tongue weight when unloaded to prevent the trailer from swaying. I know several people have changed to the higher speed rated tires and drive well over the 45mph limit stated by the manual but as that is a manufacturer rating it really comes down to if you feel comfortable exceeding the manufacturer specifications.
