Will the Rear Swinging Door Still Open on 2010 Toyota RAV4 When Using Sport Rider 4-Bike Carrier
Question:
I have a 2010 Toyota Rav4 and am planning on installing a class III trailer hitch on it for a 4-bike rack. However, I want to make sure that the rear swinging door will open with the hitch on. Do you know if the door will open with the hitch folded down or in its flattest position? How tall is the Sport Rider SE from the hitch pin to its highest point? I am not as concerned with opening the door with the +2 add-on installed, as that wont be very often. If this one does not open, do you have any platform racks that let the door open?

I went out to our warehouse to take a few measurements of the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 4 Bike Carrier, # HR1400Z. Once mounted in the hitch, the bracket for the tilt feature is approximately 7-1/2 inches from the edge of the hitch receiver and stands 6-1/4 inches above the shank. The housing for the adjustable frame hooks is 17 inches away from the receiver and 11-1/4 inches above the shank. These measurements were taken with the carrier in the ready to load position.
When measuring your vehicle, you will need the distance from the top of the receiver hitch to the bottom of your rear door. If this measurement is greater than 11-1/4 inches, you will not have any interference with your rear door while the carrier is mounted. I strongly advise using these measurements to determine if you will have full access to the cargo area while the hitch is in place.
If you are still needing to purchase a class III trailer hitch for your RAV4, I recommend the Curt Round Tube Receiver Hitch, # C13149. This receiver bolts directly to your vehicle's frame with no welding required.
I have attached a couple videos which may be of help to you.
