What is the Power Stop Model 500-PS Installed On a 2008 Jeep Wrangler?

Question:

Folks I just bought a 2008 Jeep Wranger and it had this Power Stop box attached to the bottom of the center dash. I was just wondering if you had the time to tell me what it is and its purpose. I have a small idea but I dont want to screw anything up. The model # is 500-PS and the serial number is 10293407. Im not to sure if this jeep was towed or towed something else but I would be thankful fr some information, Thank you

The Power Stop Model 500-PS is a trailer brake controller. This is a proportional controller that adjusts to the sensitivity of brake pressure applied by you in your 2008 Jeep Wrangler and send the corresponding force to the trailers electric brakes. You would only need this if you are towing a trailer with electric brakes. Typically trailers large enough to require trailer brakes are going to exceed the towing capacity of your Wrangler but there are some lightweight trailers which will use brakes as well to reduce wear and tear on the tow vehicle.

We do have similar controllers like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 which are much smaller and more user friendly. This will function similarly in it is also a proportional controller.
