Location to Plug in a Trailer Brake Controller on a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Question:

My 2006 Ram 1500 has a factory 7-pin connector in the back and a receiver hitch, but I cant find the light blue brake controller plug that Ive seen referenced in a few places, and the only empty plug Ive found is in the pic Im attaching. Is this what Im looking for, or is there something that Im missing? Or does my truck maybe not actually have the factory tow package? Thanks.

The connector that you have found is not the brake controller connector. I am not entirely sure what it is. The connector you are looking for is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. It is possible though that it is behind the kick panel to the left of the emergency brake pedal.

If it is not there, then you will need to do a partial hardwire to install the controller. You will need installation kit # 5506. You will need to use the included wire and attach one end to the blue brake controller wire and route it through the firewall, under the truck, and attach it to the pin in the 7 oclock position at the back of the 7-Way.

The white wire will need to attach to the negative battery terminal. The black wire will go first to the circuit breaker included with the # 5506 kit AUX post. Then a wire will need to run from the BAT post to the positive battery terminal.

For the red wire you will need to use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to test the brake switch wires located above the brake pedal. You want the wire that only shows power when the brake pedal is pressed and not when the headlights or turn signals are on. It is likely a white wire.

I have included some links that should help. Not all of the information is relevant so follow the parts that are.
