You can flat tow your 2001 Ford Ranger 4x4 as long as you have the manual transmission. If you have the automatic transmission you will be limited to 50 miles/35 mph unless you disconnect the driveshaft. Make sure to verify this information by checking your owner's manual.

To safely flat tow your truck you will need a tow bar, base plates, safety cables, wiring, and a supplemental braking system. I recommend the following:

-Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 483-1 (Fits XL and XLT. If you have the Edge use # 477-1)

-Roadmaster Falcon All-Terrain Tow Bar # RM-522

-RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643

-Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267

-Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR with Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400

More than likely you will also need a high-low adapter to keep your setup level. I have attached a helpful article below which shows how to measure and choose the correct adapter. I also added a link to all of our available high-low adapters for your reference.
