Is It Possible To Install Trailer Hitch In Bumper On a 2008 Starcraft Shuttle Bus On Chevy Chassis?
Question:
We have a 2008 Starcraft Shuttle Bus built on a Chevy C5500 cutaway. The end of the frame has a two foot piece of frame rail welded flange to flange in the bottom of each frame flange. The bumper is bolted to these. We would like to add a hitch without losing any more ground clearance. We can cut an opening in the bumper to make this possible. The bumper is stamped and it looks like cutting a hole in the middle of it will not hurt it so long as we stay away from the flanges.

To do what you are wanting to achieve you are going to need a hitch like the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Service Body Trailer Hitch Receiver # 41990-07. This will require you to cut down the crosstube to fit between the frame rails and be creative with the weld-on frame brackets to fit them in the frame.
