Troubleshooting Hopkins Backup Camera Only Works in Cold Weather

Question:

Ive had the Hopkins back up system for a few years now HM50002. When the weather is warm, the camera does not work - I get a blue screen. The back up sensor alarms work, just dont have a picture. When the weather turns cold, the camera video starts working. When I installed the system, the connection to the harness was difficult as it did not seem to clickfoot as expected to make the connection. I ended up clamping the connection and taping it to make the system work. Ive disconnected the system and reconnected it a couple of times - same result. Was wondering if I received a bad connector? System is installed on a 2014 Ford F150. When it works, the system works well. Thanks.

This is quite the odd situation but it does sound like a bad connector on the # HM50002 to me. It is almost like the cold makes the materials in the connector contract down enough to get the picture to come through as intended but when it is warm it expands and doesn't get a good connection anymore.

Since you're outside of the 1-year warranty the only real solution here is to buy a new # HM50002 to replace what you have now. Make sure you contact Hopkins if you happen to have any other issues once you install the new camera so they can cover it under warranty.
