How To Determine The Correct Replacement Equalizers For A 2015 Nitro ZV 18 Boat Trailer

Question:

I recently asked a question regarding if the K71-652-00 was the correct kit for my 2015 Nitro ZV18 trailer. Since I was not able to measure the axle spacing prior to traveling to where the trailer was located, I purchased this kit to make sure I had what I would need to fix the trailer and haul it back home. The axle spacing is not 33inch on my trailer, it is 31inch center to center. Is this still the correct kit for replacement? One shackle was broken on the trailer, so I just replaced that as of now to be able to pull it back, but would like to verify that I am using the correct equalizers before replacing the rest. Thanks

When replacing suspension components it's best to always measure the hole spacing to determine the correct replacement. For an equalizer you'll measure from center to center of the shackle strap holes and from the center of the top hanger bolt hole to the center line between the two shackle strap holes. For shackle straps you'll measure from center to center of the holes.

To make sure that your suspension has enough room to travel so that it doesn't bind up when travelling over bumps you'll want to make sure your replacement components have the same dimensions and that your suspension forms a 'W' (pictured below). Too far in or out can prevent the suspension from travelling properly and will cause a bind and typically break something.

The Dexter E-Z Flex Suspension Kit # K71-652-00 you referenced has a 5-3/4" shackle strap hole measurement and 2" height measurement. This is designed for a 6,000lb capacity axle so you'll also want to verify your axle capacity to ensure that your equalizer is rated high enough for the trailer.
