Recommended Hitch Extender to Clear a Spare Tire on a Jeep Wrangler

Question:

I have a basket type carrier that is mounted by ing a 2 into a 2 hitch I bought from Etrailer. Hitch is rock solid. This basket type carrier is used to carry fire wood from the shed to the house. It is great for the job, but the is too short and the edge of the basket hits the spare tire on the rear door of the 13 Wrangler before the holes align. I need some sort of to make the hitch about 3 inches longer before ing the basket . That way, the holes would line-up and be safter rather than just hanging in the hitch and jammed against the spare tire. Held in place with a ratchet strap to the basket and it jammed against the spare to. It does not rattle but looks like crap and is unsafe on a roadway. And maybe something to tighten the looseness? Got any ideas or suggestions? Thanks - your hitch is top notch

Welcome back! Happy to hear you like your Draw-Tite Hitch item # DT78MR. It sounds like you need a hitch extender. The shortest one we have available is the 7" long Brophy item # HE06. This will definitely give you enough room to clear your spare tire. It will however cut your Jeep's tongue weight capacity in half. This is common amongst all extenders and adapters and really the only option available.

I have linked an installation video below that shows this extender being used on a Jeep Wrangler to give you a good idea of how it'll work.
