Recommended 4 Bike Bike Rack That Can Break Down Into a 2 Bike Bike Rack
Question:
Does the Saris SA4026F 4 bike carrier break down to a 2-bike carrier? I notice the 2 and 4 are sold separately, but dont see an add-on sold. We predominantly carry 1-2 bikes on our rack, and less than 1x/mo put the extension on to carry a 3rd or 4th. The bike rack moves between two cars frequently, so something lighter is preferred. Cost is a huge factor for us. Thanks,

No, it does not. The Saris SuperClamp EX Bike Rack for 4 Bikes item # SA4026F is not designed to be broken down to a carry only two bikes. You would have to completely disassemble the last two carriers.
The closest alternative with that high of a weight capacity for a 4 bike rack that can be broken down to a 2 bike rack easily is the Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack for 4 Bikes item # TH69TX. It does cost a little more and weighs 96 lbs over the SuperClamp item # SA4026F 63 lbs so it might not be what you're looking for.
If you have bikes that weigh 50 lbs or less you can use the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack for 4 Bikes item # HR1400Z. This bike rack easily breaks down to a two bike rack. It weighs 91.4 lbs in a 4 bike arrangement or 54 lbs for just 2 bikes. It is significantly less expensive then both the Saris item # SA4026F and the Thule item # TH69TX.
