Possible Towing Capacity Of A 1987 GMC S-15 3WD Automatic 2.8L/3.4L V6

Question:

Would you know the towing capacity of a 1987 GMC S15, 4WD, Automatic Transmission, converted 2.8L V6 to a 3.4L V6? There is no towing specs in the original owner’s manual, there is no towing info on the door pillar placard. I have been unable to locate info searching the internet. Thank you

I will be honest, this is not information that we have. Based on what I can see online my best estimate would be between 3,000 and 5,200 lbs. I can tell you that the trailer hitches that we carry for the 1987 GMC S-15 pickup, like the Curt # C13021, are rated for 4,000 lbs. So you likely would not want to attempt to tow more than that.

Apparently GMC did not put this information in their manuals back in the day. The only way to get a concrete answer would be to go thru a GMC dealership.
