Brake Controller and Trailer Wiring Installation On a 2007 Jeep Commander
Question:
Hello, I have an 07 Jeep Commander without any factory wiring for trailer towing. Can I install a brake controller wiring kit if I first install a 4-way wiring harness?

Yes, you can install the Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, item # ETBC7, on your Commander as long as you install a 4-Way trailer connector first. The 4-Way wiring harness for your 2007 Commander is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, item # 118408, and will be installed inline with the vehicles taillight connectors.
Once you have the 4-way connector installed you will need to wire a brake controller, I would recommend the Prodigy, item # 90885, and the # ETBC7 kit. The blue wire from the brake controller will be ran to the trailer connector with wire included in the kit. There is also a wire to connect to the vehicle battery through an, included, 40 amp circuit breaker to the trailer connector. Next you will splice the red wire from the brake controller to the stop light switch wire behind the brake pedal connector. This is the wire that has no power until the brake pedal is pressed. Finally you will run ground and a power wire, through a circuit breaker, from the brake controller.
If you need auxillary power for the trailer or the backup light function, you will use the center pole yellow wire to connect to the source needed.
