Can P215/65R17 Tires Be Replaced With P215/75R17 Tires

Question:

Hello, I have a 2108 Ranger Z520C bass boat on a 2018 Ranger tandem trailer. The dry weight is 1975 for the boat alone. The tire size on the boat is P215/65R 17 98T. Cant seem to find anything for boat trailer with 65R. What tire size would replace that. Can a 75R replace a 65R. Not familiar with trailer tires. Thanks

The 65 in your tire size refers to the aspect ratio, which means that the height of the sidewall is 65% of 215mm or roughly 140mm. The R stands for radial and the 17 is the rim size. The 215 number is your section width (width of the tire tread). If you switch up any of these numbers you'll just need to ensure that you have enough clearance so the tire won't rub against the fender or body/frame of the trailer. There's about a 21mm difference when you switch from 65 to 75 so you'll just want to make sure that there's still about 3" of clearance between the tire and fender to accommodate the increased height.
