They're not terribly different, but you aren't going to be able to use the same setup form your 03 Forester on your 09 Forester.

So, to get your Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRVA118B to work with your 2009 Forester, you'd need to use the Custom DK Fit Kit for 4 Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack Legs # DK186 and the Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs for Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRRLKVA.
