Trailer Wiring Connector Recommendations for Extreme Weather Conditions

Question:

I'm going to be towing my trailer in some pretty extreme weather conditions and I want to make sure my wiring connections are safe and protected. What should I be using for that?

We always recommend using Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connectors when wiring connections are going to be exposed to the elements. These use the standard butt connector to splice the wires together and then there is a shrink wrap on each one that seals away the wiring when heated up with something like a heat gun or a lighter. You will need 2 basic sizes of connectors for trailer wiring:

- 16-14 Gauge # DW05744-10
- 12-10 Gauge # DW05745-10

Since you'll be in extreme weather conditions I also recommend upgrading your 7-Way connector to the Bargman 7-Way, RV-Style Connector w/ 8' Heavy Duty Insulated Cable # 54006-058 and then to further protect everything you can wrap the Deka Self-Fusing Auto Tape # DW04367 around the connections for peace of mind.
