Converting 5-Way Trailer Connector to 7-Way for 12V Power

Question:

Need your advice. I currently have a truck that has a OEM 7 blade round electrical connector that goes to my trailers 5 pin flat connector. I rewired the entire electrical system on the trailer a year ago and you helped with that. All is well but Im now motivated to also use the red battery hot lead to charge a stand alone 12V battery that I have on my trailer thats used to operate an electric winch. What connectors/products can you suggest that will allow me to use this additional circuit? I was googling 7 blade connector to 6 or 7 pin flat wiring connector but Im not finding anything. Thanks

The reason you aren't finding anything is because a standard 6-way or 7-way trailer connector moves to the round style like what you have on your truck. What you need to do is swap out your 5-way flat with a 7-way trailer connector like the # H20046.

You will match up your existing connections with those on the new 7-way and then connect the 12V power running from your battery. Make sure you match the functions and don't just match colors since they aren't always the same. See the chart below. It is also worth noting that you shouldn't expect this to actually charge your battery since it is only designed to be a maintenance charge.
