Why Does My 1965 Boat Trailer Still Leak Grease After Replacing the Grease Seals

Question:

HI, Hope you can help with this problem. I have a small 1965 boat trailer. The grease seals were leaking so i replaced them with NEW hubs, bearings, and grease seals. It still leaks real bad. I do not overfill the grease. I have buddy type bearings and they have a hole to let the excess grease out when full. Is there other kind of grease seals that could be a little bit tighter fitting. Could it be the part the grease seal rubs on is worn down. what else can i do? thank you

It could be a few things, but it sounds like it could be a grease seal failure. Even though these are all new components, failures can still happen.

I'd recommend first checking the grease seal out and make sure it's fully seated into the hub and that it's the correct size. I would then also check the spindle itself where the grease seal rides, and make sure there is no damage to the seal.

If your grease seal turns out to be the issue then you'd just need to replace it and you'll be good to go.
