No Output at Trailer Connector for Right Turn or Running Lights on 2002 Chevy Trailblazer

Question:

Alright, we have a 02 Trailblazer and when we hook up a trailer to the package, it doesnt work. We have done power tester on all the wires and the converter box and the tester shows everything working but the right blinker and our tail lights. Any suggestions?

You say that your Trailblazer has a tail light converter? The Trailblazer typically does not need a converter. If you have an aftermarket converter, you can troubleshoot the converter by using your circuit tester on the input side of the converter. Test each wire as its function is activated. If you have signal going into the box on the right directional signal wire (usually a green wire) and the tail/running light wire (usually a brown wire) but no signal on either of these wires exiting the converter box, your converter is bad and would need to be replaced.

If you find that there is no signal entering the box, check the fuses that manage your towing circuits. These fuses are typically located in the power distribution box under the hood. Your owners manual will have specific information regarding which specific fuses to check.

If you should find that the converter is bad or that the tow package fuses are blown, you will need to examine your trailer wiring to determine what caused the converter to short out or the fuses to blow. Start with the trailer connector, and make sure it is not corroded or damaged. Trace each circuit (especially the circuit for the right turn and running lights) back to each lamp. Look for pinched or broken wires, or worn or cracked wire insulation that would allow the copper conductor to short to the trailer frame or other metal.
