There are no circuits inside the Trailer Connector Adapter # HM47425 that you referenced to burn out. I would imagine that if enough amperage was run through this unit to melt the wires you would probably have problems elsewhere on the tow vehicle and trailer wiring.
If you are having problems with this product you might inspect it to make sure it is clean and free of corrosion so that it will make good contact with your wiring circuits. I also attached an FAQ on trailer wiring that might help you diagnose any other wiring problems.
