Recommendations for Carrying 4 Bikes on a 2013 Subaru Impreza Hatch with a Class I Hitch
Question:
I own a 2013 Subaru Impreza hatchback. Recently purchased C11286 Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4inch from etrailer. I am interested in the Hollywood 4-bike hitch bike rack platform. Looks like it will require a 1-1/4 inch - 2 inch hitch adaptor Could you help me determine the best length of this 1.25 - 2 inch adaptor / extension for my vehicle? Regards,

You have options to carry 4 bikes on your vehicle, but since you have a Class I hitch you will be limited to only carrying 2 bikes on the hitch of your 2013 Subaru Impreza Outback. Class I hitches cannot handle the increased weight and leverage that comes with carrying more than 2 bikes. Also if you were to use a hitch adapter to go from a 1-1/4 inch hitch to a 2 inch hitch then you reduce the capacity of the hitch by 50%.
I attached an FAQ article on hitch classifications for you to check out also.
For the 2-bike rack similar to what you referenced you would want the Swagman Chinook part # S64683. This rack is compatible with Class I hitches like what you have so it will work as-is. Review video attached.
Now for the other two bikes you have you are going to need to use a roof mounted bike rack. One for each bike. If you do not have a roof rack on your vehicle you will need to follow the link I attached that will allow you to select your roof style and all of the available racks confirmed to fit your vehicle will be listed.
For a fork mounted roof bike rack that can fit virtually all crossbars I would recommend the Swagman Fork Down Bike Rack part # S64710. I attached a review video for this rack for you to check out also.
