Solution for Curt Q24 Fifth Wheel Hitch that is Difficult to Unlatch
Question:
I have the curt q24. At times it seems impossible to get it to release. I have lowered it, raised it, backed up, pull forward, and nothing seems to work. I read where yall recommend straight and level with trailer. Well sometimes thats not possible with the site your in. Also sometimes the jaws are not even the one with pull handle is above the other one. I pull a 31ft 11k pound trailer so way under the limits. I also dry lube it, put grease in zurk fittings and have a curt friction plate on pin. This picture is the way the truck and trailer was the last time it too an hour to unhitch.

Some hitches just are more finnicky than others when it comes to releasing the jaws. You've done everything right by keeping the hitch and jaws maintained and lubricated so there's nothing that's going to make your hitch easier to unlatch other than making sure the trailer is totally level and straight like you already have mentioned.
Curt recently redesigned the Q series hitches with the A series like the A25 part # C16180 which was done to help with the jaw issues of the Q series. The A series has a much better jaw design that is a lot easier to unlatch and also holds the king pin tighter. If you were looking for a reason to upgrade your hitch this would be it.
