Can 2012 Toyota Tundra 5-1/2 ft Bed Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer

Question:

i am new to 5th wheel options. i have a 2012 Tundra Crewmax with the 5.5 bed. its rated for 9000 lbs and payload of about 1600 lbs. in reading other QandA it seems there is a set up that can accommodate but is the toungue weight on 5th wheel is 1300 lbs then is it really safe to put a 5th wheel set up on this type of truck. Looking for any advice on best solution.

Great question, so the payload is more or less the weight capacity of the truck's bed whereas fifth wheel rail kits attach directly to the truck frame and just go through the bed. This is why a truck with a lighter payload can still tow a trailer with a heavier pin weight.

So for your 2012 Toyota Tundra 5-1/2 foot bed you would need a slider hitch that has more sliding clearance that the typical number of around 12 inches like with the Demco Hijacker Autoslide part # DM8550040 which can slide up to 22-1/2 inches automatically as you might tight turns.

You'll need a rail kit that fits your truck too like with the part # DM8552020-71.
