Location for Installing Hopkins # 30955 Replacement Multi-Tow 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connector
Question:
Can the plug receptacle be installed on the right side of the hitch? All instructions/videos show it mounted to the left. This would avoid removing factory harness from chassis clips to reach the mount and then zip-tying the slack. Was just wondering if Im missing something. Thanks.

You are entirely free to choose an alternate mounting location for your new 7-way as long as your factory wiring harness can still reach its location. Your vehicle and trailer will not care on which side of the hitch their electrical connection is made. I do suggest you first make certain that your trailer connector can reach your new preferred location on the vehicle when the trailer and vehicle are hitched. You also need to be sure the OEM harness on the vehicle (with the round U.S. Car Connector) can reach that location so it can plug in to the back of the Hopkins 7-way.
The Hopkins # 30955 Replacement Multi-Tow 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connector that you referenced has approximately 6-3/4-inches of visible wire between the vehicle-end and trailer-end connectors. This is enough length for typical installations which are, as you noted, generally found on the driver-side of the hitch. The linked video illustrates installation in a 2006 GMC Sierra and shows the underside of the vehicle where the OEM harness is found.
