How To Gain Fifth Wheel Turning Clearance On My 2016 Ram 2500

Question:

Can this ball be used with 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter with offset part # CAB-C5GX1216? I have a 2016 ram 2500 mega cab with a 6-1/2foot bed. I am in the market for a 5th wheel but dont want to have to buy a heavy slide hitch. I need almost 12inch to clear cab. The 2 combined would give me 12-1/2.

I do have a few potential solutions for you, but we do not recommend using the Convert-A-Ball Offset Adapter # CAB-C5GX1216 with a Gen-Y offset ball # GY83XR. This Gen-Y offset gooseneck ball should not be used with any kind of adapter.

If you need 12" of clearance, a slider hitch like the B&W companion # BWRVK3670 will give you 12" of fore/aft travel. B&W makes an extremely well built hitch. The downside is they are quite heavy, just shy of 300 lbs.

Another option is to replace your pin box with a sidewinder like the # RP77FR. A sidewinder moves the pivot point back 22" and would give your plenty of turning clearance. We would need to confirm the weight capacity, and pin box size of the current pin box in order to recommend a replacement.

If you do decide to use a sidewinder, you will need to purchase a fixed fifth wheel hitch, like the # C16046, and a wedge kit # C16992. The wedge bolts to the sidewinder and prevents rotation at the king pin.
