Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For A 2016 Forest River 29 Camper With 750+ Hitch Weight

Question:

Good morning, We are brand new to the travel trailer world and are picking up our used 2016 Forest River 29ft total length trailer on Monday. The original owner had never used a weight distribution, sway control system, but Im thinking it would be a good idea. That said, we have no idea which product would best meet our needs. We are towing with a Ram 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi motor and the trailer has a GVW of 10800, a hitch weight of about 750 and dry weight of about 7600. Any helpful direction on this would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance,

I can certainly point you in the right direction. With a camper of that size/weight it will definitely be beneficial to add a weight distribution system. We have found the Blue Ox brand weight distribution hitches to be the most effective for reducing sway, and to be the easiest to set up. For you I recommend the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BLU87FR. This will work well for your trailer with a hitch weight of 750 or more. It will help to level your ride, and keep the trailer centered behind your truck at all times.

It comes with a 9-hole adjustable shank, which will allow you to compensate for any height differences between your vehicles hitch, and the trailer coupler. Also note that this shank is for a 2" hitch receiver. Larger sizes are available if needed.

The lift brackets do need to mount on the tongue 20" to 25" back from hitch ball. You will want to go measure the tongue of your trailer to be sure you will have room for the brackets.

We made a video reviewing the Blue Ox Track Pro. I have linked the video below if you want to take a look. If you have any further questions feel free to contact me directly.
