Will Trailer Wiring Ruin the Paint Finish on a Chrysler 300C When Routed Out of the Trunk for Towing
Question:
Just wondering if the wires are stored in the trunk and pulled out for towing will the wires rubbing on the paint scratch and ruin the finish. I have a 300c that I put a hitch on and the installers left the wiring in the trunk. I feel like when I tow the wires will scuff the paint.

The wiring being stored in the trunk is pretty standard especially on passenger cars. When the wiring is closed in the trunk the rubber seals protect the wiring and the vehicle finish. You will not want to allow a large amount of extra wire to be left hanging out of the trunk or the wind could cause the wiring to rub on the vehicles finish. Find a happy medium and you should not have any problems. Keep the wires clean so that when you are towing, grime on the wires does not have a chance to work on the paint.
If you would like to route the wiring outside the vehicle you can most likely do so. Open the spare tire well and pull up the carpeting, you should find a grommet somewhere that you can use to route the trailer wiring outside the vehicle. You can remove the grommet, cut a slit in it and route the trailer connector through the hole and reinstall the grommet. Once this is done you can use a Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat, item # 18144, along with the No-Drill Mount Bracket, Short, item # 18140, to install the connector at the hitch.
