Can You Upgrade The Reese 49912 Weight Distribution For a Higher Weight Capacity?
Question:
I currently have a Reese 49912, 8000k GTW and 800Lb TW. We are shopping for a Winnebago 2730RL 10,400 GTW and 826LB TW. My question is can I use the same shank, ball and just upgrade the bars? I see the RE44FR will work for me but I was looking to save a few $$. I tow with a Ford F-150 CrewCab 3.5L with max tow package, rated over 11K. Thanks

I have a recommendation for you as I was told by Reese the 49912 # RE94FR is not upgradable to the Reese # RE44FR. Instead I recommend switching over to the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-1200. This hitch is rated for trailers up to 12,000lbs with a tongue weight of 800-1,200lbs. I like this as well as it uses trunnion spring bars which are less likely to become damaged either from bending or falling out of the hitch while you are driving. If you switch to a smaller camper you only need to switch to the appropriate weight bars.
200-600lbs of Tongue Weight, Up to 6,000lbs # FA92-01-0699
400-800lbs of Tongue Weight, Up to 8,000lbs # FA92-01-0899
600-1,000lbs of Tongue Weight, Up to 10,000lbs # FA92-01-1099
You can also get additional Frame Brackets # EQ95-01-5600 if you wish to use the hitch on multiple trailers.
