Is 80 PSI Rating Safe for Westlake ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire

Question:

I have 205/75/r15 tires on my trailer at 65lbs pressure. 1 is 225/75 r15 pressure rating 80 lbs. is this safe? Should I run the 80 lb tire at lower pressure? How will that affect heat in the tire?

Expert Reply:

Yes, the Westlake ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # LHWL304 is safe to fill up to 80 psi. We actually recommend sticking with the psi rating on the sidewall of the tire because Westlake has tested the tire for this, including the heat. Some trailer tire manufacturers will have charts that show what the weight rating is at lower pressure ratings but that isn't super common.

If you run your tires at a lower psi rating then you'll be using them at an unknown weight rating which can be dangerous.
